The Golden Star Radio sign is shining again, and it’s time to celebrate!

Join CHRS, the Tong family and the Golden Star restoration team on Friday, July 10, during the Chinatown Night Market for a celebration of this historic San Francisco landmark.

A Chinatown Landmark Shines Again

The restored Golden Star Radio sign once represented the pioneering broadcasts of Tommy and May Chin Tong, who brought Cantonese-language radio programming to San Francisco’s Chinese American community beginning in 1939.

After decades above Clay Street, the sign had become badly weathered and its neon had stopped working. CHRS launched an effort to preserve it, bringing together specialists in neon restoration, traditional sign painting and historic preservation.

Now the work is complete, and Golden Star is glowing over Chinatown once again.

Join the Celebration

The Chinatown Night Market runs from 5:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, July 10, on Grant Avenue, just two blocks from the Golden Star Radio sign at 846 Clay Street at Spofford Alley.

District 3 Supervisor Danny Sauter will join CHRS, the Tong family and members of the restoration team to celebrate the project and the return of this historic neon sign.

Everyone is invited to come enjoy the Night Market and help us celebrate Golden Star Radio.

We hope to see you in Chinatown!
