   FROM OUR VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

By Kim Brickman

Greetings this final weekend in June!

July is next week. This means three very big and important events for CHRS:

  • The Mayor’s Annual 4th of July Parade here in Alameda
  • The lighting of the Golden Star Radio neon sign in SF’s Chinatown July 10th
  • Radio Day By the Bay-2026 on Saturday, July 18th at Radio Central

Also in this week’s offering:

  • Distributing Radio Day By the Bay-2026 fliers/cards
  • June’s Volunteer of the Month
  • New CHRS volunteers

We still have many stacks of Radio Day By the Bay-2026 cards to be distributed throughout Alameda and even around the east bay. Yes, time is of the essence. Please let me know ASAP if you can come by Radio Central and take some of these cards to be distributed.  For example, Webster Street businesses; Marina Village; our Libraries; Mastick Senior Center are but a few areas needing to be covered. (Let me know who and which batch(es) you’re taking to hand out. – thanks!).

Next, the parade. This will be our third consecutive year participating in what is the longest 4th of July parade in the nation at over 3 miles! We’ll have our ‘float’ (okay, a trailer; but, a mighty nice, decorated trailer!). Now, we need you to come along to ride, walk, wave, smile and hand out fliers for our Radio Day by the Bay-2026.  More to come in the next week. But, let us know of your interest in joining in the fun on Saturday, July 4th! Don’t forget this is our nation’s 250th Anniversary.

Our Volunteer of the Month for June, 2026 is Wendy Baughman!
A tireless, collegial, helpful and helping Volunteer who defines the word ‘exemplary’. A valuable member of CHRS for many, many years, Wendy comes to Radio Central every week to put her talents and skills to work in our shop.
However, you will often see her in our Great Room looking after our numerous artifacts with an attention to detail that is second to none.
Wendy actually told me this Wednesday she considers Radio Central her “home away from home”. Let us join in with celebrating Wendy her well deserved accolade!

We also would like someone who could water our Radio Central landscaping areas on both Wednesdays and Saturdays. This wouldn’t take very long, each time.  Let us know if you would like to keep our grounds thriving!

Join me in welcoming following CHRS member:

  • Tom Ballantyne/KKUP-FM – Montara, CA

Until next week, stay connected!
