The Golden Star Radio sign restoration caught the attention of ABC7.
ABC7 Eyewitness News anchor Dan Ashley produced a story about the CHRS project, highlighting the effort to preserve the historic Chinatown neon sign and the broadcasting legacy it represents.
The segment also helped introduce a wider audience to the story of Tommy and May Chin Tong, whose pioneering Cantonese-language radio broadcasts served San Francisco’s Chinese American community for 40 years beginning in 1939.
CHRS and the Tong family thank Dan Ashley and ABC7 for helping share the story of this important piece of Bay Area broadcasting history.
