Recently we had the privilege of hosting the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society who brought @ 60 visitors to Radio Central. This represented the largest single tour group, thus far, at Radio Central. Our Volunteer Docents not only rose up to this challenge, but surpassed the expectations of our visitors through their knowledge of all things radio & communications. By positioning our Docents at specific locations throughout Radio Central, our guests were treated to a wealth of information, enlightenment and, frankly, some entertainment as well. Our interactive / hands-on exhibits such as our working phone booth; 1942 Wurlitzer Jukebox in the BARHOF room were very well-received and favorably commented on.

As the arrangement of having stationary Docents for a tour group was a first, we’ve asked them for their feedback and recommendations on how to improve our ‘performance’ and presentation which will result in a better outcome for all visitors. Such improvements are under review and will be a continuous work in progress. Thanks, everyone for your input.
Besides Rachel Lee, Steve Kushman and myself, want to thank the following Docents for their invaluable support and assistance during this tour:
Dennis Monticelli
Jaime Arbona
Stephen Franaszek
Walt Hayden
Mike Camp
Keith Scott
Bob Rydzewski
Kent Leech
Nathan Rudnick
If you’d like to become a Docent and guide our ever-growing number of visitors through Radio Central, let me know. You’ll find it’s educational, interesting and most of all, fun!
March will indeed come roaring in like a Lion with more tour groups, high school radio broadcasting classes at CHRS and community outreach efforts coming to full flower just like Daylight Savings Time (this Sunday, March 2nd) and Spring (March 20th).
