SUMMARY:Ask Dr. Hip
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\n\n \nJoin us at CHRS for a conversation with Dr. Eugene Schoenfeld\, better known to generations of Bay Area listeners as Dr. Hip of KSAN-FM. \nIn the late 1960s and 1970s\, Dr. Hip became a defining voice of San Francisco’s underground radio scene\, offering candid\, controversial\, and often provocative advice on topics rarely discussed openly on the air—health\, sex\, drugs\, and personal freedom. His broadcasts on KSAN challenged social norms and reflected the era’s spirit of curiosity\, experimentation\, and change. \nA practicing psychiatrist specializing in psychopharmacology\, Dr. Schoenfeld’s professional work focuses on the study\, diagnosis\, and treatment of substance use\, abuse\, and addiction. His unique blend of medical expertise and countercultural sensibility made him a trusted—and sometimes notorious—source of information during a transformative moment in media and social history. \nFrom 1967–1973 and again in 1978–1979\, he also wrote Hip Pocrates\, a nationally syndicated newspaper column that answered readers’ questions about sexuality and psychoactive drugs with the same frankness that defined his radio presence. \nThis special event offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from a figure who helped shape free-form radio and the cultural conversation of a generation. \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column] [/vc_column][/vc_row]\n\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp

SUMMARY:Sound Bites- Then & Now
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column] [/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\nWhat’s inside?  Radio Vs. iPhone \nIn May’s Sound Bites\, kids will become technology detectives as they explore what’s inside the devices we use to communicate. Participants will get a close look at a dissected vintage radio and a dissected iPhone\, comparing the parts and pieces that make each one work. \nThrough guided discussion and hands-on observation\, kids will learn how radios from the past used components like tubes\, coils\, and speakers to receive sound from the air\, while modern smartphones use tiny microchips\, circuit boards\, and digital technology to do the same things. \nThis fun activity helps kids see how communication technology has evolved over time while discovering the surprising similarities between old and new inventions. Designed for curious minds ages 5–15\, this Sound Bites event is perfect for anyone who wonders what’s inside and to learn how the technologies work! \nSound Bites is designed for kids and their grown-ups to enjoy together.  Please plan to stay and participate alongside your child during the event! \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]\n\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp
