Joe Starkey is a legendary broadcaster whose iconic voice has spanned five decades across the NFL, NHL, USFL, NBA, and college sports. Known for his memorable calls with the San Francisco 49ers—including Super Bowl broadcasts and the unforgettable “Catch II” by Terrell Owens—Starkey also served as the longtime voice of the California Golden Bears. His extensive resume includes play-by-play for the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Golden State Warriors, and multiple NHL teams, including the Oakland Seals and San Jose Sharks. Famous for his enthusiastic catchphrase “What a bonanza!” Starkey was honored with the Chris Schenkel Award, was a nine-time Associated Press California Play-by-Play Broadcaster of the Year, and was inducted into both the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Cal Sports Hall of Fame.
