The Bay Area Radio Hall Of Fame and The Broadcast Legends commemorated Women’s History Month with our second annual women’s program titled, “He Said, She Said: Reality Check.” This year’s event was held Saturday, March 15th at Scott’s Seafood Restaurant at Jack London Square in Oakland. It was a great event! CHRS commemorated Women’s History Month with its second annual event honoring women in broadcasting. This year, we put together a program at a new venue, Scott’s Seafood Restaurant at Jack London Square in Oakland. Attendees heard from the first woman to anchor a local news program, Marcia Brandwynne. Marcia joined KTVU Channel 2 in 1972 and later joined the news team at KGO-TV Ch. 7. Panelists also included former KGO Radio General Manager Mickey Luckoff who was instrumental in integrating women into the all-male staff. KMEL’s Lady Ray and KBLX and KOIT show host Freska Griarte discussed the challenges still faced by women broadcasters today. Emcee, KTVU weather forecaster Roberta Gonzales, lead the lively and revealing conversation. John Evans and Rosie Allen produced a wonderful event… With the help of Jude Heller, Rick Rubin, Steve Garaventa, Steve Kushman and Dave Billeci who shot, edited and posted a video program of the event.
