It’s Gold and Platinum for CHRS
CHRS is pleased to announce that the estate of the legendary KOBO-AM Radio Disc Jockey, and Programmer Ross Forbes, has donated 10 framed gold and platinum records to the museum. This generous gift not only enriches our collection but also pays homage to a significant figure in Yuba City’s broadcasting history.
If you’re not familiar with KOBO, it like many other radio stations has been the victim of frequent sales and format changes. KOBO’s current offering features programming reflecting the large Punjabi community in the area. Between 1982 and 2015 the station changed from Spanish Language to Spanish language religion, to Spanish language Simulcast. From 1982 – 1989, the station was News Talk, with hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Larry King, Jim Bohannon and the NBC Talk Network. During those years the station also carried Oakland A’s Baseball, San Francisco 49er’s Football and Cal Bears football.
From 1969 to 1982, KOBO was the hit making Top 40 Station in the Yuba City Market and Ross Forbes was a big part of that success. The “Juice” as he was called, was more than just a voice on the radio. He had a passion for music and the gold records, which were part of his personal collection, are a testament to his remarkable career and the indelible mark he left on the world of radio.
The Collection includes: Van Halen, Journey, Nick Gilder, Natalie Cole, Eddie Floyd, KC & the Sunshine Band, Amii Stewart, Dolly Parton, Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King and the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). Each award tells a story of musical excellence and broadcasting history, making them invaluable additions to our museum.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Mary G. Forbes and the Ross Forbes estate for this extraordinary donation. Their generosity ensures that his contributions to the world of radio will not be forgotten. We invite you to visit CHRS and see these magnificent gold and platinum records for yourself. They are now part of our collection, celebrating the vibrant history of KOBO-AM and the legacy of Ross Forbes.
