| CHRS / KRE NEWS: "LIVE! at KRE 2006" was a Big Success -
Thanks to the efforts of many hard working people CHRS produced another
great show & auction. Our biggest event of the year went pretty
smoothly. CHRS raised $11, 800 last Saturday, $400 more than last year.
Our attendance was down by about 20%, but those who came spent more
than last year. Thank you to all for your contributions. We say a big
thank you to our performers, The Jon Hammond Trio, Frankye Kelly & Friends,
The Tamsen Donner Band and of course The Broadcast Legends. The music
was most entertaining & The Legends brought back fond radio memories
with their jingles. The Bickersons had the audience roaring with laughter
and the interview with Ken Burkard was quite interesting. Our concert
featuring Edison cylinder music played on the Amberola 30, by Curt
Garman, really created a nostalgic atmosphere in our historic location.
Thanks also to Carter B. Smith for doing a great job as our MC again
this year. Thanks go out to David Jackson of The Bay Area Museum of
Broadcasting and Darryl Compton representing NATAS & The Broadcast
Legends for participating. Thanks to our corporate sponsors Peet's
Coffee & Aidells Sausages for donating their fine products. We
are grateful to Dale Tucker, Harry Kauffman, Larry Drees, Jaime Arbona,
Bob Beckman and Rich Beckman for donating water, soda, ice & buns. Volunteers made it happen. The following people gave their time to prepare and work on this event: Jerry Cantou, Scott Robinson, Mike Adams,Richard Look, Curt Garman, Alan Voorhees, Janice Seale-Kushman, David Jackson, Paul Bourbin, Rod Wentler, Rick Weislak, Dale & Kathy Tucker, John Carruthers, Larry Drees, Bart Lee, Tom & Julie Bonomo, Jaime Arbona, John Staples, Will Rayment, Butch McDonald, Maria Palting, Paul Shinn, Marv & Ricki Glassman, Elsa Trexler, Kent Leech, Art Lebermann, Fred Meehan, Walt Hayden, Brad Thomas, Bill Wray, Robby & Heather Weinberg, Harry Kauffman, Dennis Pinto, Bob and Rich Beckman, Jim Reveaux and myself. If I have forgotten you, I apologize. CHRS is very fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers. Thank you very much. We would like to thank Nancy Garcia for trusting in CHRS to find homes for her late husband Albert's radios and phonographs. Also thank you to Nancy for donating a beautiful David Grimes radio to the CHRS Collection. Also thanks to Frank Camenish, Stan Lipski, Harry Kauffman, Bart Lee, Mike Tenaka, Bob Nichol and Ken Herrick for donating items for the auction and to the CHRS Collection. |

| Here are some unsolicited
comments about this event: "The event was quite enjoyable and I took a bunch of pictures. I will have to go back again someday to get a good look at all the historic radios, etc. in the museum. CHRS is doing the a great public service in preserving this equipment for posterity. Keep up the good work!" John Tim "Hi All, great fun, immense praise and thanks. Yesterday was a consummate example of the pride of our club. The building looks great, the auction had a surprisingly good assortment of fine radio pieces and the entertainment (thanks B'cast Legends and musicians)and food was above in every way. An enjoyable opportunity to be with old friends and talk radio. Special thanks to Steve and the many who devote much of their personal time. If there is ever encouragement for more of us "wallflower" types to get more involved (me for one) this is as good as it gets. Sincere thanks for a wonderful day!" Dan Healy "I want to second Dan¹s praise as well as thank Steve and those other very devoted few who put events like this together for us. Thanks also to Mike for the website work. We get to see ourselves having fun!" Jaime Arbona "I must tell you how grateful I am for all the help you provided to me & my daughter in preparation and during the auction last Saturday. It made a difficult task more comfortable and generated a lot of smiles. Thanks again! Ciao!" Nancy Garcia "As one of the people involved in making the day happen, I'd like to add that I enjoyed it, too. I got a couple of small goodies and a present for a friend, but resisted the temptation to buy a console (space IS the final frontier...). At least two people with *no* gray hair (yes, they did have hair) expressed interest to me in joining the club, so these events serve to attract new blood, too, and that's an important matter. I saw lots of people touring the building, including the demos on the second floor. Thanks to the rest of my indicted co-conspirators for their efforts in making this day happen! Peace." Scott Robinson "Kathy and I had a great time Saturday and the only penalty was a bit of sunburn for me and exhaustion (which we all shared, I'm sure) at the end of the day. Congrats to Steve and all the other unpaid but professional worker bees for a simply grand event! As always, the camaraderie was the highlight of the event. There may be a better class of people in another organization but I'm nominating CHRS as the best of them all. Thanks to each of you." Dale & Kathy Tucker Thanks again to all who helped make this years event a Big Success. We'll do it again next year. Stay Tuned. |
